Ok yall, in lieu of MJ's passing, memorial services, temples, tributes, video marathons, media coverage etc. It has lead to some good discussion about the popularity of MJ, and leads me to wonder... Was/Is anyone as famous as M.Jackson during his lifetime?
Now, in the pantheon of worldwide fame & popularity you have the likes of Elvis, Bob Marley, Bruce Lee, MLK, Hitler(for the wrong reasons), Princess Diana, and now MJ. However non of them really compare to the greatest entertainer of all-time!
So, is there anybody alive now more famous as MJ? Hmm, let's see...
1. The Pope - Worldwide known, yes, but nobody knows the Pope's name. It's more the position that's known.
2. Michael Jordan - Worldwide fame, yes, but lacks in the love factor. M.Jackson had millions crying, fainting, and as an entertainer, reached people in a way sports heroes can't.
3. Oprah - Yes, she is a billionaire, yes she has worldwide popularity, but she is more a brand than an entertainer. All I'm saying is, they're not building a shrine in Russia for her
4. Madonna - Popularity, yes, worldwide known yes, but wasn't the phenonem and pop hit MJ was. Adoptions of African kids, and her disowning the US has lead.
